Superheroes of all ages will once again take to the streets of Hot Springs in September for the Second annual Tri-Lakes CASA Spa-Con 2K Fun Run.

Bill Solleder, marketing director for Visit Hot Springs, said the 2K will be a "fun race for people who don't like running," and for children.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite comic book/pop culture characters and the first 100 children and the first 100 adults who register for the event will be given custom masks and capes to wear.

Solleder said they are excited to be able to add a timed 5K to the event this year.

Joining in on the fun of the races is the mother of the fastest man alive. Actress Michelle Harrison, who portrays Nora Allen, mother of Barry Allen, otherwise known as the Flash on The CW Network TV series of the same name, will be the official starter for the event.

The presenting sponsor of the races is Southern Bancorp, and other sponsors include Crawford Law Firm and Visit Hot Springs. "Funds raised through sponsorships and entry fees will go directly to Tri-Lakes CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), which serves children in Garland, Hot Spring and Grant counties," a news release said.

Solleder said most comic conventions like to find a way to support charities during their events. "Everybody likes to add a charity event. (It is a) great way for us to help out a charity," he said.

The 2K Fun Run registration costs $5, and the 5K costs $35 to register. All registered walkers/runners will be given a "complimentary Saturday Day Pass to Spa-Con," the release states, and all 5K runners will receive a T-shirt.

The events will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, with both races starting at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The registration table will open that day at 8 a.m. for packet pickup, and the race starts at 9:30 a.m. Packets will also be available to pick up on Friday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the convention center.

The 2K and 5K are part of Spa-Con IV, a three-day event that starts on Sept. 20. In addition to Harrison, other announced guests include "Rocky Horror Picture Show" star Barry Bostwick, robotic rock band Cybertronic Spree and artist Pat Moriarity.
