HSACF announces newest board members

The Hot Springs Area Community Foundation has announced the election of four new members of its board of directors.

Stephanie Alderdice grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area but now describes herself as "an unofficial cheerleader for Hot Springs," where she owns a full-service advertising and marketing agency named for the temperature of the world-famous waters, Celsius 61. She holds an undergraduate degree in Rhetoric from West Texas A&M and a master's in Communication from Eastern Michigan University. Alderdice and family relocated to Hot Springs in 2012. "She has become very active in the Hot Springs community, giving her time and expertise to various ad campaigns and civic committees in our community," a news release said.

Donetta Frierson is a native and resident of Hot Springs and graduate of National Park College. She has been employed with the Hot Springs School District for many years and is administrative assistant to Superintendent Stephanie Nehus. She is a member of the ASBA Administrative Professionals, a Kids Across America coordinator, a former youth pastor, and a member of Leadership Hot Springs, Class of 2009.

Hot Springs native Jean Wallace recently retired after a nearly 30-year career as the director of the Hot Springs Parks and Trails Department. She studied agriculture and horticulture at the University of Arkansas and was tapped to lead the department that was created in 1989. During her tenure with the city, her department secured more than $5 million in grants and won more than 40 state, regional and national awards. She has worked extensively with the Hot Springs' Arts Advisory Committee, Friends of the Parks, a local nonprofit, and developed the Hot Springs Parks and Trails Advisory committee for development and maintenance of the local parks system. Now that she is retired, she plans to spend more time with her family and travel more often.

Dea Ann Richard is a native of Nashville in Howard County and is an active volunteer in the Hot Springs community. She is involved with Arkansas Children's Hospital Circle of Friends and other nonprofits. Beginning in June, she assumed the position of statewide president of the Arkansas Children's Hospital Circle of Friends organization, a statewide network of supporters of Arkansas Children's Hospital who help coordinate fundraising, friend-raising and outreach activities across the state with 12 chapters within the state of Arkansas, including Garland County. She is also very active with Lakeside School projects and activities.

"These four active community volunteers bring community leadership experience to the board and will be of assistance in endowment building, grantmaking and community awareness of the foundation. We are extremely proud to have them become a part of our organization," said Joyce Whitfield, executive director of the Hot Springs affiliate.
