Kudos to a giving community

Dear editor:

I have lived in Hot Springs about three months now. Since I arrived I keep reading in The Sentinel-Record about so many individuals, organizations, and various entities giving, giving, giving! They serve so many diverse cross-sections of our community, and in so many different ways, that it just jumps off the pages. What a giving, altruistic, and compassionate community I now live in. I consider myself so lucky to live here.

Pretty soon, as part of my upcoming new year's resolution, I will be looking for an organization to which I will contribute my photographic services.

Kudos to Hot Springs!

You need to know

Dear editor:

Our government is set up to reduce corruption and illegal activities. The American people have demanded this in the past with laws and regulations so that our government would not be corrupt like others around the world. The laws, policies and regulations are set up so that a person representing and working for the government cannot legally do anything that is not permitted by law. This is in contrast to those in the private sector who can do anything they can get away with -- legal, illegal, immoral or unethical -- and they do not have to have a moral or ethical compass to guide them.

I spent 40 years of my life as a civil servant as others did and are doing to minimize corruption and keep our government running in spite of the self-serving politicians that an uninformed voter base may have put in office. As a federal employee, we were not able to even accept a meal that could not be eaten at one sitting or accept gifts of any kind that might initiate bias or favoritism.

Now we have politicians instead of statesmen that are not in office to do what is best for this nation but to do what is best from them and the party. They appear to no longer be able to see what is legal, ethical, moral and right. I do not appreciate the politicians or voters that have prostituted the integrity of this nation and the welfare of current and future generations for their 30 pieces of silver.
