PERRYVILLE -- Fountain lake's senior high boys' basketball team earned a valuable road conference win in 3A-4 play on Tuesday against Perryville.
The Cobras (15-3, 5-1) built up a six-point cushion by the start of the fourth quarter. They led, 15-14, at halftime, but the lead was 27-21 after the third quarter.
Perryville (10-6, 4-2) outscored the visitors, 15-12, in the final quarter, settling for a 39-36 home defeat.
Senior guard Jordan Mungle led all scorers with 17 points for Fountain Lake.
The only remaining undefeated team in 3A-4 conference play is Booneville (16-1, 6-0). The Class 3A state football champion Bearcats bested the Cobras, 60-45, on Dec. 7 in the first week of conference contests. Fountain Lake will host Booneville on Jan. 24.
Fountain Lake teams will head to Paris (10-9, 3-3) for four games on Friday.
* Perryville held off Fountain Lake, 41-38, in the junior high boys' game on Tuesday.
The junior Mustangs held a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and still led, 21-16, at halftime. They added to their lead to make it 33-22 by the end of three quarters.
Landin Kizer led Fountain Lake (9-4) in scoring with 12 points. Colby Lambert added 10 points.
The junior Cobras will play again on Friday at Paris.
Fountain Lake's senior high girls were unable to pick up their first 3A-4 conference win of the season on Tuesday.
Perryville (9-8, 2-4) only led, 11-10, at the start of the second quarter, but the Lady Mustangs moved ahead, 26-14, by the halftime break. The score was 38-20 after three quarters as Fountain Lake (5-13, 0-6) fell, 511-39.
Sophomore Presley Hamric scored 17 points for the Lady Cobras. Senior Cherokee Fields and sophomore Karli Bryant added eight points each.
Next up for Fountain Lake is Paris (13-6, 3-3) on Friday.
* The junior Lady Cobras were also unable to make up an early deficit on Tuesday.
Perryville held a 15-4 lead after the first quarter, but Fountain Lake (7-7) surged in the second quarter to tie the game, 21-21, at halftime. The score was 32-30 after the third quarter, but the junior Lady Cobras were held to one point in the fourth quarter for a 38-31 road loss.
Jaylin Rhoades was the leading scorer Tuesday with 14 points. Karlie Craver added eight points.
