President's Concert competition winners to perform

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild will present the Henderson State University Department of Music's annual President's Concert competition winners in Hot Springs Village at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 199 Barcelona Road.

The program will feature student soloists who were selected as winners of a competition that took place in November.

"As always, we enjoy performing for an appreciative audience in Hot Springs Village and are excited to collaborate with the Symphony Guild again to present our competition winners," said Steven Becraft, coordinator of the competition.

Soloists include Morgan Lee, a soprano from Malvern, who will perform "Batti, batti, o bel Masetto" from Mozart's Don Giovanni; Luke Fields, a saxophonist from New Boston, Texas, who will perform the first movement of Ibert's Concertino da Camera; Zaquary Hale, a flutist from Bryant, who will perform Otar Gordeli's Concertino for Flute; and Emelia Adams, a hornist from Arkadelphia, who will perform the first movement of Jim Beckel's "The Glass Bead Game."

This year's recital will also feature two HSU faculty soloists, Lim Angela Tchoi, who will perform the final movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2, and Steven Becraft, who will perform the final movement of Michael Daugherty's clarinet concerto, "Brooklyn Bridge."

There is no charge, but registration is requested by visiting the Guild website or calling Nancy Jorgensen, 984-2266. A meet-and-greet reception will be held after the concert.
