'Salute to Veterans'
The students attending the National Student Leadership Conference in Hot Springs invited veterans to attend a "Salute to Veterans" night at Lake Hamilton High School on June 22. Several members of the Disabled American Veterans, James L. Whitby Chapter 5, attended. Fifteen states were represented with a total of 450 junior and senior high school students. "The national anthem was sung beautifully by Evangeline Parker of Memphis. She followed with 'God Bless America' and 'Amazing Grace' and she received standing ovations for both. It was one of the best veterans salutes ever. The kids were awesome and the program was outstanding which included a tribute video about former Lake Hamilton High School graduate Navy SEAL CPO Adam Brown (1974-2010) and a short video titled 'I Fought For You,'" a news release said. The program culminated with a rousing version of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" sung by Arkansan Cory Jackson as everyone waved red, white, and blue glow sticks. Gene Rasure, who "danced to the kids' amusement and delight," is shown with students from the Lafayette Middle School, Oxford, Miss.Society on 07/11/2019
