Civic clubs

Scenic 7 Rotary Club meets at noon the first, second and third Thursdays at Charlie's Pizza Pub, 127 McNeely Circle, and adjourns by 1 p.m. On fourth Thursdays, it meets at 5:30 p.m., dismissing by 6 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Hot Springs Elks Lodge 380, 132 Abbott Place, will meet at 7 p.m. today to revise by-laws. Discussions and voting on possible revisions will be held. Pot roast will be served from 5-6:15 p.m. for $8 per person.

Narcotics Anonymous meets at noon and 8 p.m. today at 919 Hobson Ave. This is a 12-step recovery program for people for whom drugs have become a major problem. The Help Line number is 321-8700.

Christians in Action is a fellowship of men and women who come together to share their experiences, strengths and hopes with one another, helping each other to overcome the traps of drugs, alcohol, meth or sexual addictions. New Horizons Band is primarily for people who played an instrument in high school and wish to relive those days of playing in a band. Some musicians use NHB as preparation for auditioning for Hot Springs Concert Band. Dues are $40 a semester. Hot Springs Carousel Readers' Theater entertains audiences with performances emphasizing humor and enthusiasm. The group is unique in that actors remain behind music stands, acting out characters using facial expressions, voice and gestures. There is limited memorization since actors have scripts in front of them. People of all ages interested in theatrical study and performance are welcome to attend meetings from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays at Garland County Library. Cast members have appeared at Gallery Walk, civic clubs, churches and school groups, assisted living and nursing facilities, and other celebrations of the arts. Appearances are free, however, donations are welcome to cover expenses. Members are interested in appearing for fundraising events. Extension Get Fit at Hot Springs Baptist Church will not be held today.

Extension Get Fit meets from 9-10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Leonard Street Baptist Church, Leonard and Panama streets. Women and men are welcome to join this exercising program to prevent osteoporosis, increase balance and muscle tone and get in shape. Cost is $20 per year. Silver Light Adult Care Service will be held in the cafeteria of Gospel Light Baptist Church, 600 Garland Ave. today from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This service is tailored to individuals who have memory issues, or persons who cannot tolerate a typical church service. Downtown Derby Dolls nonprofit roller derby league welcomes all ladies 18 years and older to drop in and give roller derby a try. All gear needed is on site, and no experience is necessary. Beginner "Fresh Meat" practices are held in the Hot Springs Junior Academy gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays. There is a drop-in fee of $5.
