Summer Solstice Concert set for June 23 in Village

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Voices Rising and the Clyde Pound Trio will present a Summer Solstice Concert on Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Village Bible Church, 100 Ponderosa Way.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted.

The Clyde Pound Trio, known for its smooth jazz sound, will accompany the select ensemble Voices Rising, as well as perform their own tunes, a news release said.

"The richness of the music, the fun of the jazz numbers, and the close harmonies will inspire awe, bring smiles, and even some emotional tears with a couple of the patriotic tunes, honoring those who have sacrificed to give us the freedom to share beautiful music," it said.

Directed by Fran Stroud, Voices Rising features 12 vocalists, each with years of experience. "Known for their memorized music and a cappella numbers, the group spends months preparing a concert that exceeds audience's expectations every time," the release said.

The men of the group will sing "Tell My Father," a moving patriotic piece of a young soldier sending his last letter to his father. "And many of the jazz numbers will have the audience tapping their toes and remembering the big band days of old," it said.
