Hot Springs police charged a local woman with first-degree murder Wednesday evening following a shooting earlier in the day at 2216 Malvern Ave.

Police charged Elizabeth Hageness, 57, whose address was listed as 2216 Malvern Ave. on the Garland County Detention Center's inmate roster, with one count of first-degree murder, punishable by up to life in prison.

She remained in custody at the detention center on zero bond Wednesday.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Malvern at around 1:30 p.m. and arrived to find one male suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence at 2216 Malvern, Hot Springs police Cpl. Joey Williams told The Sentinel-Record at the scene.

LifeNet personnel could be seen performing CPR on a man as a gurney was lifted into the ambulance. The shooting victim was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, Williams said in a release. His identity was not being released Wednesday pending notification of next of kin.

Williams said several witnesses were transported to the Criminal Investigations Division at the Hot Springs Police Department for questioning. During questioning, they learned the situation began as a domestic disturbance.

One neighbor, who said she was inside her residence at the time of the shooting, said she observed three police officers with weapons drawn, instructing an unidentified man to exit the house while keeping his hands clearly visible.

"I ran to look out the front window and a guy was coming out of the house with his hands raised. He backed (up) to them and they put him in handcuffs. Then, Beth, the woman who stays in that white house, she ran and tried to tell them to stop or something and they handcuffed her. That's all that I caught," the neighbor said.
