Protect dogs' feet from heat

Dear editor:

For all the dog walkers: Please remember that the temperatures are rising and dogs are subject to burning and blistering the pads of their feet.

The test for pavement is: If you can put the top side of your hand down on the pavement and keep it there for 10 seconds, you are safe to walk your dog on it.

Big smiles, bigger hearts

Dear editor:

Month after month we get the chance to see the employees at Triumph, with their big smiles and even bigger hearts, participate in Triumph's give-back opportunity dedicated to Ouachita Children, Youth, and Family Services. It's truly a sight to see.

Beginning in October of 2018, Triumph cooks a meal each month, or has one donated, for their employees. Their employees then pay for a plate and the donations come to OCYFS to serve those in need. When these lunches occur we don't just watch people open their wallets we watch them give back to their community, enjoy each other's company, and receive appreciation from their employer for the incredible work they do every day.

To date, Triumph has raised over $6,000 for OCYFS and those in our community who are in crisis such as at-risk children, homeless youth, and victims of domestic violence. With these donations each month we are able to meet those seeking our services with basic needs so they can focus on their journey toward a brighter future.

Ouachita Children, Youth, and Family Services feels great pride to be connected to the Triumph Airborne Structures family and are grateful for the relationship we have formed.

Thank you, Triumph Airborne Structures!

Cemeteries need care

Dear editor:

We came to Hot Springs over Memorial Day to visit our daughter. On Sunday, my daughter and I decided to visit some cemeteries, since it was Memorial Day. We went to Hollywood Cemetery. I was appalled that a cemetery with so much history could become so neglected and not cared for. This is your heritage and these are your ancestors, not to mention veterans from so many wars who gave everything are buried there. I picked up a few small American flags that were broken, shredded and torn. What a way to say "Thank You" for what you have done for me. Where are your civic organizations? Where are your Boy Scout troops? Are there no volunteers in Hot Springs willing to take on a worthwhile project? Even a few weekends once a year would be better than nothing at all. The Friendship Cemetery across the road is not as bad but really needs attention, also.

We then went to Greenwood Cemetery. The first thing we see is a tombstone covered in red graffiti. Next, we see a stone with several small logs placed on it and set on fire. We extinguished the fire. With all the tourists that come to your area, I hope they do not choose to visit these cemeteries. The people of Hot Springs should be embarrassed. No, they should be ashamed.
