Earlier this week, representatives of Visit Hot Springs held a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of John King, an Irish-American War hero buried in Calvary Cemetery. After retiring from the military, King broke his right leg and was sent to Hot Springs to be treated at the former Army and Navy General Hospital in February 1937. He died there of pneumonia on May 20, 1938, according to the Garland County Historical Society. King was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism in 1901 and again in 1909 while serving in the U.S. Navy. According to Visit Hot Springs, he is one of only 19 people to receive the Medal of Honor twice.
