Two killed in separate traffic-related incidents less than 8 hours apart

Two people were killed in separate traffic-related incidents less than eight hours apart in Garland County on Tuesday, including a pedestrian who was struck by an SUV and a driver who was killed when his truck rolled over, according to preliminary fatal crash summaries from the Arkansas State Police.

Tammie Odom, 51, of Hot Springs, was killed shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday as she was reportedly walking on Amity Road in the eastbound lane of traffic when she was struck by an eastbound 2002 Cadillac Escalade.

The female driver of the Escalade reportedly failed to notice Odom walking in the road and "was unable to stop or avoid striking her," the report stated.

Odom was pronounced dead at the scene by Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley. The driver of the Escalade was not identified in the report. It was noted that conditions were clear and dry at the time of the incident.

Michael B. Mayberry, 20, of Mount Ida, the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, was killed shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control and wrecked on Old Dallas Road in Royal, the report states.

Two passengers, Gregory Wallace, 20, and Spy Rogers, 19, both of Bonnerdale, were injured in the wreck.

Mayberry was reportedly "negotiating a left hand curve with a downhill grade" when his vehicle exited the north side of the road, overturned onto the passenger side and slid down a ditch where it struck a tree with the top of the car before coming to rest.

Mayberry was pronounced dead at the scene by Smedley and the two injured passengers were transported to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. The report notes conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck.
