Rattlers, 17-3

Magnet Cove piled up 13 hits as they overcame the Murfreesboro Rattlers Friday, 17-3. Murfreesboro got off to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Magnet Cove Panthers found their footing in the second after JR Tolleson's double to center scoring Jaryd McJunkins to give the Panthers their first run of the game.

The Panthers scored four more runs in the third inning and gained the lead, 5-2. Clay Spadoni doubled on a line drive to left field that scored Brennon Koller and Landon Stone.

Spadoni scored on the next play when Luke Upton singled to center. Later in the inning, Tolleson grounded into a fielders choice that scored Upton to give him his second RBI of the game.

In the top of the fourth, Stone singled to left field to score Koller for his second run scored of the night to stretch the gap, 6-2. Koller also scored in the sixth inning after stealing third base.

The Panthers scored a total of 10 runs in the final frame. Javin Shirley singled to center field to score Alex Ordonez and Tolleson. Bases loaded, JT Higdon was hit by the pitch and scored Justin McKim to push ahead with a 10-2 lead over the Rattlers.

Next up to the plate was Stone as he reached in on a single to right and scored Shirley to push Magnet Cove ahead even further, 11-2. Koller scored his fourth run on an error by Murfreesboro and Higdon scored on a fielders choice to make it 13-2.

McKim had a two-out single that scored Jake Harmon and Tolleson to give the Panthers a 16-2 advantage. The senior scored later in the inning on Higdon's single to left to give Magnet Cove them their final run of the game.

Koller had four runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases. McKim, Shirley and Higdon each had two RBI's apiece. Stone, Spadoni, Tolleson and Upton also each collected a pair of RBI's.

Tolleson led the Panthers with three hits and scored two runs. McKim started on the mound for Magnet Cove and pitched three innings while striking out four on two hits. He gave up two runs and walked one.

Shirley came in and relieved McKim in the fourth inning and pitched three, striking out six and giving up zero hits and zero runs. Harmon pitched the final inning giving up two hits on one run while striking out one batter.

Panther rally not enough

It was a pitching duel Saturday when Woodlawn visited Magnet Cove on the road. Magnet Cove took the 2-1 loss, rallying in the final inning, but coming up one run short.

The pitching was strong on both sides, the Bears' pitchers struck out seven and Magnet Cove's pitchers struck out a total of five. Ethan Zaunbrecher threw six strong innings for the Panthers, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four.

Jaryd McJunkins pitched the final inning and allowed zero hits or runs with one strikeout. Woodlawn scored both of their runs early in the game, one being in the first inning and the other on a homerun by Jayden Manus in the third inning.

Magnet Cove had four hits offensively. The hosts didn't join the scoreboard until the last inning on an error by the center fielder when Brennon Koller scored Javin Shirley to mark the score, 2-1.

Shirley had two hits including a double and one walk with one scored run. Luke Upton had the other two hits for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 on the game.
