Teen charged with murder

A local teenager was charged with first-degree murder Sunday afternoon for the reported fatal shooting of 21-year-old Keon Lashawn Jackson, of Hot Springs, early Saturday morning on Autumn Street, Hot Springs police said.

Laquan Vontae Paskel, 18, of Hot Springs, was located at a residence on Oakcliff Street at around 3:45 p.m. Sunday and taken into custody without further incident, police said in a news release.

A newspaper photographer at the scene said a perimeter was still set up around the residence at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Numerous uniformed and non-uniformed officers could be seen in the area.

Detectives believe the incident was narcotics-related, the release said.

Paskel is being charged with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and theft of property over $1,000, and will be held at the Garland County Detention Center with no bond, it said.

An unidentified man, identified as Jackson by police on Sunday, was found lying on the ground at 241 Autumn St. after officers responded to a possible shooting at 2:20 a.m. Saturday.

Officers found Jackson in front of apartment No. 30 at that address.
