Summer term offered for music lessons

Private music instructor Shelley Martin is accepting students of all ages and abilities for lessons beginning Monday, June 3, through Friday, July 26.

Lessons are once per week, and flexible scheduling around vacations, camps, etc., is available. Martin has been teaching and playing music professionally for over 30 years, specializing in piano, flute, clarinet and saxophone. Her students range in age from 5 to 78, a news release said.

"It has long been known that there are specific benefits to the brain when learning a musical instrument, particularly the piano, at any age. No other instrument engages both hemispheres of the brain in the same way that learning to play the piano does. In one study, adults taking only six months of piano lessons showed improved performance in executive function, such as processing information, verbal fluency, and enhanced mood," the release said.

Call Martin at 501-282-8145 for more information.
