Civic clubs

South Hot Springs Lions will meet at 5:30 p.m. today for dinner in CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs cafeteria, 1 Mercy Lane. The meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. Visiting Lions are welcome.

Hot Springs National Park Rotary will meet at noon Wednesday at Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa, Central and Fountain streets, for lunch. A meeting will follow at 12:30 p.m. Visiting Rotarians are welcome.

H​SV Evening Lions Club meets the first and third Thursday of the month in Room 6 of the Coronado Center in Hot Springs Village. Narcotics Anonymous meets at noon, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. today at 919 Hobson Ave. This is a 12-step recovery program for people for whom drugs have become a major problem. The Help Line number is 321-8700.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily at 8 p.m.; at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; at noon Monday through Saturday; and at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The speaker meeting is at 11 a.m. Sunday. Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous support group of Union Missionary Baptist Church, 219 Gulpha St., meets from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The discussion will be on what some of the causes of substance abuse are and ways to solve them. On the fourth Wednesday of the month, there is be a dinner to celebrate those who have been sober for 30 days or more. They will receive awards for this achievement.

Stop Animal Cruelty Thrift Store, 821 Hobson Ave., is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. All proceeds benefit the rescued pets in foster care. SAC is an all-volunteer organization striving to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty and alleviate fear, pain and suffering in animals. It investigates reports of cruelty and neglect in Hot Spring and Garland counties. Donations of kitchen items, home décor, clothing, shoes, bedding, linens, collectibles and furniture in good condition are appreciated. Donations of dog and cat food or pet supplies may be left at the store. All donations are tax-deductible. Low-cost spay and neuter vouchers are available to the public. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs' Mercy Closet, 300 Werner St., is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays. This is a nondenominational organization that uses sports analogies applied to Scripture in the Holy Bible. Its mission is "Turning men into winners by passing the ball of integrity to the next generation in the game of life ... the biggest game on earth."

Ageless Bikers Club has 10 bike rides that are 16-35 miles. No one is left behind and members stop often to regroup and socialize.
