Lake Hamilton downs Mena in junior hoops

PEARCY -- Lake Hamilton's junior girls (2-0) rallied behind Olivia Pielemeier's 14 points to cruise to a 44-34 win over Mena Thursday.

The junior Lady Wolves took a 6-4 lead in the opening quarter before Mena knotted the score at 16-all at the break. Lake Hamilton pushed out to a 31-23 lead going into the final frame.

Mackenzie Clark, Emma Hughes and Brooklyn Braughton put up 8 points each, and Naomi Smith had 6. Katie Lyle led Mena with 14 points.

"We are young this year," said Lake Hamilton junior girls coach Maribeth Richards. "We are starting three eighth graders. We beat Hot Springs on Monday night, but tonight we looked so much better on both the defensive and offensive end of the court compared to Monday. We took care of the basketball and limited turnovers.

"Mena is a good team. We had to work to contain their shooters. These girls play so hard, and I'm excited to see how much better they continue to get throughout the year."

* Lake Hamilton's junior boys (2-0) held Malvern to single digits in each of the four quarters en route to a 46-17 win.

The junior Wolves led 13-5 after one frame, stretching to 21-12 at the half and secured a 37-14 lead going into the final period.

K.J. McDaniel led Lake Hamilton with 14 points, Ty Robinson added 11, Zac Pennington 10, Cooper Kindt 7 and Kendrick Martin and Easton Hurley 2 each.

Lake Hamilton's eighth grade boys and girls and both freshman teams will travel to Bryant on Monday with first tip-off set for 5 p.m.

FLJH rolls over Malvern

JESSIEVILLE -- Fountain Lake's junior boys (2-0) won the first overtime game in Garland County this season as they held on to take a 42-40 win over Malvern Thursday in the Jessieville Junior Classic.

The Cubs jumped out to a 16-10 lead and stretched out to a 21-14 lead at the break. The junior Cobras outscored Malvern 11-8 in the third frame to cut the deficit to 29-25 before knotting the score at 39-all at the end of regulation. The junior Cobras outscored the Cubs 3-1 in the extra period for the win.

Colby Lambert led the junior Cobras with 24 points.

Fountain Lake will travel to Haskell Harmony Grove on Monday with seventh, eighth and junior high boys games. First tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

* The junior Lady Cobras (2-0) rallied behind Kara Martin and Eden East who combined for 30 of the team's points in a 43-15 win over the junior Lady Cubs.

Fountain Lake stretched a 12-0 first-quarter lead into a 26-7 lead at the break. The junior Lady Cobras outscored Malvern 17-8 in the second half for the win.

Martin led all scorers with 20 points, and East had 10.

All three junior girls teams host Haskell Harmony Grove Monday.

Lakeside jr. girls rout Centerpoint

ROSBORO -- Lakeside (2-0) took control of the game early and never trailed as the junior Lady Rams routed Centerpoint on the road, 39-8.

Lakeside jumped to a 9-2 lead in the opening quarter before a 17-4 halftime lead. The junior Lady Rams outscored Centerpoint 22-4 in the second half.

Amelia Rogers led Lakeside with 15 points, Kennedy Brock added 8 in the second half and Allie Pollock had 6 points with 7 blocks. Riley Orr finished with 6 points, and Paige Davis had 4 while leading the defense.

Lakeside will host Malvern Thursday.

Jessieville jr. girls edge Bismarck

JESSIEVILLE -- Bismarck's junior girls (1-1) put up a fight with Kyleigh Schoultz hitting a 3-pointer with 50 seconds left in regulation before Jessieville's Cosby responded with one of her own to knot the score and force an extra period as the junior Lady Lions won 37-33 in overtime.

Cadence Collins, Natalie Metcalf, Tori Lingo and Schoultz led Bismarck with 6 points each.
