'After Hours' Rotary comes to HSV

A new offshoot of the Rotary Club of Hot Springs Village, the "After Hours" Satellite Club, will meet at various locations on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

The first gathering, on Nov. 6, was held at the DeSoto Club. Representatives of both HSV Rotary and Scenic 7 Rotary were present for the official chartering of the "After Hours" club. John Weidert, president of the HSV morning Rotary Club, presented the Satellite Club's charter. He invited the new club to join the HSV Rotary morning club or Scenic 7 noon club in service projects or to develop their own.

"Rotary is steeped in tradition, but a lot of people can't attend meetings in the morning or at lunch. This 'After Hours' club will be a great opportunity for them," Past District Governor Dennis Cooper said. "In Rotary, things like skin color, political beliefs, or church memberships don't matter. What does matter is that Rotarians do good in the community to make lasting changes in our community, our world, and in ourselves. What's in your heart makes a true Rotarian. The more people we have, the more good we can do."

Officers of the "After Hours" club are Co-chairs Kathy Wright and Milt Barber with Jamie Selden acting as secretary. Addressing about 20 members of the new club who were present, Wright said that Villagers are encouraged to check it out. She said, "It's not just joining a club, it's the Rotary spirit of Service Above Self." Barber added that the "After Hours" club will be the "Fun Fun Club."
