NPPC photography club to meet

National Park Photography Club will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Garland County Library.

This month's program, which will be presented by Melissa Sonnen and Paul Swepston, will be the first part of a two-part presentation on "Image Analysis."

"To understand the importance of knowing how to evaluate a photographic image consider this: Imagine you are strolling through a gallery of photographs. You casually view each image then move on to the next. But then you come to an image that grabs and holds your attention. Why does that happen? The primary reason is that the image provoked a memory, an association, told a compelling story, evoked an emotion or made you question something. Beyond that, it was likely well composed and technically excellent," the club said in a news release.

The Swepstons will "help you refine your thinking about what constitutes good composition, technical excellence and how to assess the impact of an image," it said.

There will be two benefits -- photographers will become better able to critique their own images and will be more successful should they choose to enter competitions, and they will understand why some images in the club's competitions and the GSCCC competitions are successful and some are not.

"If you have ever considered attending one of the NPPC monthly meetings we would be pleased to have people from our community who have an interest in photography to join us. NPPC welcomes new members who are interested in expanding their photography skills in a collegial and supportive environment," the release said.

A one-year membership to NPPC is $20.
