Monday's Letters to the editor

Day of Prayer

Dear editor:

Sunday, Nov. 3, is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

Terrorism and persecution strike man throughout our world. Among these are our Christian brothers and sisters -- unnamed and forgotten -- who, in over 50 countries around the world, are beaten, humiliated, raped, imprisoned and even murdered for their faith in Christ.

"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering" (Hebrews 13:3, New International Version).

Go to persecution.com/IDOP for more information.

Please help shatter the silence surrounding their suffering.

Jury selection

Dear editor:

A jury of one's (defendant's) peers: So says the Constitution; without elaboration. Taken to the absurd extreme, an accused murderer would be sentenced by a jury of murderers. Defense attorneys may persuade the court to dismiss potential jurors by discovering bias relevant to the case. Appeasement to suit "social sensibilities" worked for Hitler, but not Jesus. More on this later, as the situation develops.

A winning spirit

Dear editor:

Jason Gloria, you provide for your family in every way and yet you find time after a hard day's work to keep training for your big race, The Chicago Marathon. I'm proud of you for running the race. Holding that medal has to be very special to you. But, I'm more proud for the reason that you do it. You do it for our girl, Haley Gloria, our brain cancer survivor. I know St. Jude has a special place in your heart, as well as the whole Gloria family. You running in honor of Haley your daughter makes everything all complete.
