Rotary Club's August programs took education theme
The August theme for programs at The Rotary Club of North Garland County/Scenic 7 was Supporting Education and Community. With that in mind, President Shawnee Cooper invited Superintendent Melissa Speers to update club members on the status of Jessieville Schools.
Speers, according to a news release from the club, reported that each student in the school district this year will have access to technology. The student body will also have opportunities for distance learning on such topics as forensics and sign language. The new agricultural program, now in its third year, has grown to include instruction in welding and woodworking.
Speers noted that the school system still welcomes public donations of good condition tools for the agricultural program and musical instruments for the music department.
Speers has a long association with north Garland County; she is 21-year employee of the district, previously having taught high school mathematics.
