Richard D. Hawthorn, age 82, of Hot Springs, passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1937, in Hot Springs, the son of Guy Elmer Hawthorn and Ella Mae Layne Hawthorn. On March 17, 1957, he was married to Mary Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Elizabeth Kelley, Elmer Hawthorn, Glenn Hawthorn, Don Hawthorn and Ruby Swanigan.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs where he served as an usher for many years. He operated, and eventually owned, G. E. Hawthorn's Meat Packing for over 50 years. He was a member of both the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and the Garland County Cattlemen's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hawthorn, of Hot Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Pam Hawthorn, of Hot Springs; two granddaughters and their spouses, Meredith and Dylan Embree, of Memphis, Tenn., and Morgan and Wes Holman, of Springdale; three great-grandchildren, Rowan Embree, Josie Embree and Emersyn Holman; three sisters and their spouses, Bernice Bewley, of Hot Springs, Nina and James Langley, of Pine Bluff, and Grace and Clifton Koller, of Texarkana; five brothers and their spouses, Doyle and Hazel Hawthorn, of Hot Springs, Dan and Joyce Hawthorn, of Lowell, J. D. and Charlene Hawthorn, of Bentonville, Grady and Nancy Hawthorn, of Sims, and Gilbert and Beverly Hawthorn, of Manning; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, in First Baptist Church of Hot Springs with Brother John McCallum officiating.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hawthorn, Tim Hawthorn, Jared Hawthorn, Rodney Koller, George Hawthorn and Justin Hawthorn.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Walker Sunday School Class and ushers of First Baptist Church of Hot Springs, Dr. James Humphreys and staff, the nurses and staff of Hospice Home Care and Jeff Watson.
