Garland County Sheriff's Reserve Capt. Hank Nowak reports that reserve deputies worked a total of 214 hours in August, including 133 hours in the patrol division, responding to 30 calls and taking seven reports.

"Our numbers are down due to the retirements of four individuals effective between June 30 and July 5," Nowak said last month. "Unfortunately, another member left the unit during the month which again impacts our totals," he said Monday.

The unit, which is comprised of unpaid volunteers, provides support to the sheriff's department's different divisions throughout the year. Anyone interested in applying for the reserves can apply online at, or pick up an application at the department at 525 Ouachita Ave.
