Martha Ann (Benson) Short, age 82, of Hot Springs, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2019
She was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Jackson, Tenn., the daughter of William Wylie Benson Sr. and Lola Mamie Newman Benson. On May 1, 1970, she married James H. "Jimmy" Short. She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Gross; her parents; four brothers, John Benson, Guy Benson, Ed Benson and Bill Benson; and one sister, Francis Benson.
Ann was a member of First Baptist Church, Hot Springs. She was a homemaker and worked for many years in banking. She also worked for Hewlett Packard and selling Avon.
She is survived by her husband, James H. "Jimmy" Short of Hot Springs; two sons, Richard Dale Gross of Hot Springs and Scott Gross of Royal; one step-son, Gene Short of Hot Springs; one step-daughter, Debra Kay Johnston of Newton, Texas; six grandchildren, Michael Gross, Michaela Duffy, Drew Johnston, Shaw Johnston, T.J. Short and Crystal and Ron Tom; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Elizabeth Allen and Mary Benson, both of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, at First Baptist Church, Hot Springs, with Brother John McCallum officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Michael Gross, Jeffery Estride, David Rose Jr., Jeff Evans, Tim Evans and Greg Evans.
