The Garland County Sheriff's Department was searching for a suspect in a stabbing who eluded capture Saturday evening in the 100 block of Trace Court.

Sheriff's Sgt. John Schroeder said the possible stabbing of a 71-year-old white male was reported at around 3:30 p.m. His injuries were not life-threatening, Schroeder said.

After a K-9 search of a residence showed that the suspect wasn't inside, a K-9 tracked his scent for 2 miles into the woods before the trail went cold. Schroeder said that the stabbing is believed to be an isolated incident and that the suspect is not a threat to the community.

"This guy's not going to go out and do something crazy, to our knowledge," he said.

Sheriff's deputies cordoned off an area on Trace Court shortly before 4 p.m., and deputies could be seen walking to the scene dressed in tactical gear. Arkansas State Police and multiple divisions of the sheriff's department, including the TRT and patrol divisions, all were all at the scene.
