Troy bests Benton at Kimery Park

Hot Springs picked up another win on Thursday, narrowly edging Benton at Kimery Park.

Both of the team's top singles players went the distance with Hannah Newcomb defeating Benton's Hall 9-7 and Blaine Martin beating Nash in a playoff 8-8 (7-5).

Said Angeles, in number two boys singles, did not give up a game in an 8-0 win over Covert, but Falco Oversteeg lost 0-8 in number three singles.

In girls doubles, Angelina Guevara and Ella Pace downed the pairing of Carter and Gibbs 8-1 while Isabel Ritter and Nina Gunnell split in number two doubles. The pair defeated Young and Horton 6-3, but they lost to Sisco and Welch 5-8.

The Trojans won just one doubles match with John Thomas Butler and Eben Sanders defeated Covert and Rose 6-4. Sanders and Ethan Abel fell to Pelton and Shipp 0-8, Butler and Duke Wittnebert fell to Rose and Williams 1-8, and E.J. Martinez and Bryson Austin lost 4-6 to Nash and Herzfeld.

Head coach Mona Lisa Gray said that she feels the team is improving and should be ready for the conference tournament in October.

Hot Springs will host Sheridan today before visiting Fountain Lake Thursday.

Lakeside wins at Texarkana

TEXARKANA -- Lakeside took an 8-4 win over Texarkana on the road last week.

The Lady Rams dropped just one game as they swept the Lady Razorbacks. Haley Fauber defeated Mary Dowd 8-0, and Elizabeth Cowen beat Amanda Davis 8-0 in singles action, and Sydney Blount paired with Anna Tapp to dominate Wren and Schooler 8-0. Isabella Calhoun and Ava Monte allowed outmatched Wilkerson and Jones 8-1 to wrap up the girls' action.

In boys singles, Ben Hollis defeated N. Price 8-6, and William Ivy bested W. Dowd 8-2. Aiden Foster lost 4-6 to T. McCoy, and Sam Stevens fell 6-7 to B. Kennedy.

In boys doubles, Brooks Bell and Walker Wood fell 4-8 to the pairing of Floyd and McCoy, but Greyson Corneliuson and Griffin Gulley took a 9-7 win over Ivey and Cornwelius. Carson Knighten and Brady Littler fell 7-9 to Bennett and Smith, and Brodie McAllister and Ryan Lynch defeated McCoy and Ivey 8-0.

Lakeside travels to Benton today, and it will host Lake Hamilton and Greenwood on Thursday.

Junior Rams remain

undefeated in volleyball

Lakeside's junior Rams moved to 8-0 last week with a win over Camden Fairview at home in two sets, 25-16, 25-6.

Carsen Cordell led the team with a 13-ace service run along with three kills and four digs. Madi Bell Landry had four kills, two solo blocks, two aces and a dig.

Olivia Porter, Kaitlyn Threadgill and Gracie Ruckstuhl all had two kills, and Porter tallied 12 assists. Ruckstall also had three aces, and Threadgill dug seven times.

The eighth grade team also picked up a two-set win, 25-9, 25-13.

Landry led the team in service with 12 points, including three aces. Lucy LaDuke had four aces among her eight service points, and Aubrey Judd had seven service points with a pair of aces. The team moves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Lakeside will host Little Rock Christian on Thursday.
