Cemetery association cancels meeting

Due to restrictions on the number of people who can meet together at one time because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Fourche Loupe Cemetery Association has canceled its April meeting.

"However, maintenance costs continue, and we would like to encourage friends and families of those buried there to continue to send donations for the upkeep of this old cemetery," the association said in a news release.

Donations can be mailed to the Fourche Loupe Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 22521, Hot Springs AR 71903-2521.

Historical Society postpones contest

The Garland County Historical Society has postponed its 2020 History Essay Contest for area high school students, including home-schooled students.

The competition, originally planned to culminate in May, has been rescheduled for the fall school semester.

The theme "Why Hot Springs is the Most Historical Place to Live" will remain the same, along with the award prize moneys of $200 for first place, $100 second, $50 third, and $10 for four honorable mentions.

History and English teachers across Garland County will be renotified in August, with the competition criteria and new entry deadline.
