Lake Hamilton seniors who returned to the campus on Tuesday to pick up their graduation materials in drive-through fashion were greeted by rows of signs to congratulate them on their achievement.

"Today reiterated how special our Lake Hamilton community is," said Brian Bridges, communications and public relations coordinator for the Lake Hamilton School District.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday announced there would be no additional on-campus instruction at Arkansas schools through the end of the current school year due to the coronavirus pandemic, which also precluded the seniors from being able to get out of the vehicles and enter the buildings due to social distancing guidelines.

Lake Hamilton seniors traditionally participate in a "senior walk" through campus buildings.

"Signs were lined all along the route for seniors as they picked up their graduation materials and there was nothing but smiles and honks as the seniors drove by," Bridges said.

"Although this does not compare to the activities they've missed due to the school closure, we hope it was one small token of appreciation and celebration of their hard work and achievements. We look forward to the day when we will be able to recognize them in a culminating commencement experience," he said.

Helpers wore masks and gloves as they handed the caps and gowns to the seniors.

"We appreciate everyone's patience during this time," Bridges said. "The district has received lots of questions over the past few days regarding on-site instruction being canceled for the remainder of the school year. We will be releasing a FAQ page with answers to the most commonly asked questions in the coming days once our administration team meets.

"Please continue checking the district website and social media channels for updates. Another great way to get updates is to subscribe to our Wolf Week News and to download our free app from the App Store or Google Play," he said.
