Trump rally

Dear editor:

I'm sorry that the Trump flotilla interrupted the tranquillity of Sue's private lake. I understand that Biden is going to organize one next month if he gets out of the basement. And keep in mind that many of Biden's supporters are otherwise involved in "peaceful protest" in Democratic-controlled cities with the burning, looting and destruction of private and public property. And they wear masks but for another reason. Besides, it is difficult to get a boat and trailer through a broken storefront window.

I was unaware that masks are required for the private boats or while swimming, well, I guess if you go boating or swimming in the department stores you should wear a mask. Wearing of life jackets while boating or swimming is a good idea, but again, not a requirement. Approved flotation is required for water skiing but I understand that was not a problem. As for jumping in the water in the area of concentrated boat activities, like under the bridge, would be dangerous but I think that your complaint was aimed at the band area on the island with the boats anchored and was not a problem in the main channel. And masks get so soggy when you are swimming. And for the lack of masks on the Belle of Hot Springs, I'm guessing you had a better view than I did, or did you see that on the national news, or paper?

All and all the flotilla was a safe, well-organized Trump rally. Much to the chagrin of Biden supporters that were hoping for an accident to blame on Trump. P.S., "Chagrin" definition: "distress or embarrassment at having failed or been humiliated."

But I think your objection is Trump, not the flotilla, but some people are so paranoid that they wear masks in their own house but continue to have parties. We all have our little quirks. Sad, but in today's politics and until Biden gets out of the basement and starts answering some tough questions, this is the way the campaign will play out. "Biden supporters are not here to praise him but to bury his opposition. (My apologies to William Shakespeare.) Meanwhile, the CDC Guidelines make many just that -- guidelines, like limit parties to 10 or less, don't travel to hot spots (like New Orleans) and in fact limit travel.

Socialism and lies

Dear editor:

As I waded through Ed Cherry's letter to the editor Monday, I admit I was confused, until I read Mr. Little's letter Ed was referencing.

"Socialism has an outcome, oppression of the people for the good of the state," Ed opined. I think everyone would agree, but I find nothing about socialism in Little's previous letter. It simply stated that The Washington Post had determined that Donald Trump has told over 20,000 lies or misleading statements in the course of his first term. Actually, a little research shows numerous news outlets have determined the same thing in their own fact-checking. Is Ed Cherry opining that all news outlets that print something derogatory about Trump are socialist entities?

Perhaps so, because Ed goes go to state "Only Americans that have pride can see it. Only Americans that have faith can feel it." I don't know Ed Cherry, but judging by his previous submissions, that would place all of us who oppose Donald Trump and will vote otherwise are not true Americans, regardless of the numerous examples of corruption and dishonesty that the Trump administration, campaign, and family have been exposed for. As Mr. Little pointed out in but a few examples.

I did agree with one thing Ed said: "As for criminals, Republican or Democrat, all should face justice for their actions." Absolutely, and when all the misdeeds and fraud Trump, his administration, and his family have committed come to light, he and they should be treated no better or worse than anyone else.

As to Ed's opinion of the media, I'm reminded of a line from a television show I saw years ago, when the subject of an embellished article confronted the reporter -- "A lie ain't the other side of a story. It's just a lie." And now the facts show Donald Trump has told over 20,000 of them.
