Wednesday's Letters to the editor

Prudent to wait?

Dear editor:

It seems that all our schools are gearing up for the start of classes. Everyone seems eager to get things back to "normal" as soon as possible. But wouldn't it would be more prudent to wait another two to three weeks and see what happens in other states? If there is no significant uptick in their virus numbers, we start school. If there is an uptick in their virus numbers, we go to Plan B.

I feel that when you gamble with the lives of our children you shouldn't be in a hurry to join the status quo.

Remember Benghazi

Dear editor:

I wish I had the address, if she is still living, of Ms. Pat Smith, mother of Sean, one of the four Americans killed by terrorists at Benghazi. I would send her all the letters I have written about Benghazi, so that she would know that not all Americans, like Mr. Gordon Smith, think of their deaths as nothing more than "a blast from the past."

This kind of attitude toward fellow Americans' brutal end explains all the rest.

P.S.: Some of our people should get a bucket of paint, and paint the word "All" in front of "Black Lives Matter."

P.P.S.: God Bless Mr. Cherry for his letter today -- "Fighting for freedom!" -- Aug. 3, and others!

God bless America, land that I love!

God bless President Trump.

God bless our military, law enforcement and firefighters for their bravery and patriotism!

'Hold onto it'

Dear editor:

There have been quite a few right-wing Trump supporters writing letters to the editor. I think it's time someone explained to them that what they're trying to achieve was accomplished in Yemen, Bulgaria, Russia and Lebanon. Putting all control in the hands of one or a few with no ties to the public they're supposed to serve gives absolute power to those with no concern for the ones they are supposed to serve as the public resources are stripped and dispersed randomly to their "friends."

I heard the oligarchs were happily surprised how quickly they succeeded in putting Trump in the White House. They really didn't think it would happen this fast. We are too smart to "buy" into a fascist agenda after experiencing democracy for over 200 years.

Unfortunately, our country was built on colonialism and racism. Our health care system never served the people regardless of race or economic ability to pay, jobs and housing are only for those with white skin or inherited wealth. Until we address these inadequacies and stop taking from those unable to defend themselves such as Native Americans that were here first we will continue down the road to our destruction.

Looking to a person of Trump's ilk only serves to feed into this lack of understanding what it is our founding fathers built. As Benjamin Franklin said, "You have a democracy as long as you can hold onto it." I really thought it would last through my lifetime.
