Gov. Asa Hutchinson said the state received 5,900 doses of the Moderna vaccine Monday. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the messenger RNA-based vaccine for emergency use last week.

He said additional shipments are expected today and Wednesday. The state also received another 18,575 doses of Pfizer's messenger RNA-based vaccine, he said.

"While this news provides hope for many, it is a continued concern to see the loss of 58 additional Arkansans, Hutchinson said in a news release. "We must steel our resolve to take every precaution to keep everyone safe."

Hutchinson said 20 of the 58 confirmed and probable deaths reported Monday were delayed reports, meaning the deaths occurred earlier in the pandemic and were recently linked to the virus.

The post-Thanksgiving spike in the infection curve appears to have stabilized, with the rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases remaining below the Dec. 9 peak for 12-straight days. Monday's 1,616.57 average was more than 1% lower than Friday's and 3% lower than the average's peak.

Active confirmed and probable cases fell Sunday and Monday after peaking Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The 22,158 reported Monday were 4% lower than Saturday's peak.

The 454 active confirmed cases reported Monday in Garland County were the highest number reported since the pandemic began in March, surpassing the 450 reported Dec. 11. The county's infection curve has been below the Dec. 13 peak for eight-straight days but has risen 21% since Wednesday.
