Rotary clubs to sponsor 50th Anniversary Party

The three Rotary Clubs in Hot Springs Village have joined forces to sponsor the 50th Anniversary Party in honor of the Village's founding a half-century ago.

On Monday, April 20, the entire community will celebrate "this landmark event" at the Ponce de Leon Center from 5-8 p.m., a news release said. "Entertainment will be provided by the popular Soaker Blues Band. There will be burgers, brats and hot dogs sizzling on the grill, and commemorative cupcakes for all. The event is free and open to the public," it said.

April 20 is the actual date of the founding of Hot Springs Village, with the birthday party to be sponsored entirely by Rotary. While each of the three Village clubs performs individual service projects in the community, this will be the first event in which all three clubs join together, according to the release.

Members of the Rotary 50th Anniversary Planning Committee from the Rotary Club of Hot Springs Village morning club include club President John Weidert, President-elect Susan Clark, Dennis Cooper, Greg Gillis and Bob Sweeten.

Representing the Rotary Club of North Garland County/Scenic 7, which meets at noon, is their club president, Shawnee Cooper.

Participants from the newest Rotary group in Hot Springs Village, the evening Satellite "After Hours" Club are Jamie Selden and co-chairs Milt Barber and Kathy Wright.
