The 10th Annual Adam Brown Shamrock Run will be March 14, in honor of U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Adam Lee Brown, who died in combat on St. Patrick's Day in 2010.

With five levels of sponsorship opportunities, all proceeds go to Arkansas Teen Challenge, Recovery Point Ministries and any other local organization Brown's family "deems Adam would get behind," race coordinator Rachel Mundy said.

Sponsor levels include the "Bronze Sponsorship," $200 and up; the "Silver Sponsorship," $500 and up; the "Gold Sponsorship," $1,000 and up; the "Platinum Sponsorship," $2,000 and up; and the "Presenting Sponsor," $5,000 and up.

Sponsorship prices determine the size of a company logo on the back of the race shirts, post-race ads and on race banners.

Mundy said the "coolest thing" about the Shamrock Run is they award the proceeds to the organizations at the event, allowing people to see exactly where the proceeds go.

"We allow for the mom and pop company to be a sponsor and we're doing something here in our community," she said. "Some of the big-name nonprofits, you don't really know where your money's going ... I can tell you no one on this committee or in this family profits as a result from this. This goes directly back into this community and into others that his family wants to help as a result of the proceeds."

Mundy noted the event raised over $50,000 in sponsorships last year, with approximately 1,000 people involved nationwide.

"The family likes to give to Teen Challenge because Adam was in the Teen Challenge program," she said. "That's part of Adam's story: He battled an addiction, got over that addiction, and then became a Navy SEAL."

Mundy said she and Adam graduated from Lake Hamilton High School together in 1992.

"He was one of my best friends. ... After high school a lot of us went our separate ways, going to different schools, and Adam ended up going down kind of the wrong path and ended up getting into Teen Challenge, course correcting, getting his life together and giving his life to God," she said. "He went into the Navy and became a Navy SEAL with the support of his family and wife. But as far as the guy who I went to school with, just a very happy-go-lucky and loved everybody. He was just truly kind."

This year's race will begin at 9 a.m. March 14, at Lake Hamilton School.

Mundy said it is "professionally chip timed" and afterward will include a barbecue lunch by Stubby's BBQ and Smokin' In Style.

"We invite all skill levels, we don't want anybody to go 'Oh my gosh, I haven't even walked to my mailbox this year,'" she said. "We want people to come from all skill levels. It's really just about celebrating the day."
