David Showers has been recognized by his peers as the 2019 Journalist of the Year, General Manager Harry Porter recently announced.

The inaugural award was established to recognize the journalist at The Sentinel-Record who "has made a significant impact locally or statewide, valuing impartiality, trustworthiness, and excellence in their reporting."

"David epitomizes what we consider to be a great journalist. He is constantly vigilant and always striving to tell the story properly," Porter said.

"The Sentinel-Record is very fortunate to have a journalist of the caliber of David Showers. Hot Springs is a better community because of journalists like David," he said.

Mark Gregory, the newspaper's editor, echoed Porter's comments, saying that the ballot that each of the journalists filled out to choose the award's recipient shows they "serve the needs and best interests of the community by regularly finding new stories and leads, reporting with rigor and accuracy."

"That description fits David perfectly," he said.

The award will be given out annually to a journalist in the newsroom of The Sentinel-Record.
