Children's Dance Theatre Company to hold auditions for 'Cinderella'

The Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre Company will hold auditions for "Cinderella" on Saturday, Feb. 8.

"Under the artistic direction of Edmond Cooper, those chosen will have a wonderful opportunity to learn the nuances of a ballet with the seriousness and dedication of any professional dance organization," a news release said. Cooper, a Hot Springs native, is a former professional touring performer and choreographer.

The auditions will be held at Techniques Studio, 321 Section Line Road, Suite G, from 9-10 a.m. for dancers 5-9 years old; 10:30 a.m. to noon for 10-13-year-olds; and noon to 1:30 p.m. for ages 14 and older. The audition fee is $10.

"All dancers from the entire community, boys and girls, from the ages of 5-plus, would be very welcome to participate," the release said.

At the audition, students will do a ballet barre and learn a small excerpt of material. A parent or guardian must be present for students younger than 18 years of age to sign appropriate waiver forms. The dress code for girls is a black leotard, pink tights, hair in a bun and ballet shoes. Advanced and intermediate females will need to bring pointe shoes. Boys are asked to wear tights, shorts or sports pants and a T-shirt. Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the audition start in order to have time to register.

Each dancer selected to participate will be required to sign an agreement and pay a participation fee of $50 to Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre Company. The fee will be due by the second week of rehearsals and will cover rehearsal costs and a weekly 10 a.m. Saturday warm-up class prior to Saturday rehearsals. An additional costume fee of $90 will be required in April.

Dance rehearsals will take place every Saturday beginning Feb. 16, with some weeknights for the more advanced dancers, and continue until the week of production. The technical rehearsal week will be May 3-7. Performers will dance in a school production at 10 a.m. May 7 and in seven shows scheduled for the second and third weeks of May.

Dancers will study the techniques of a stage performer, classical theater and choreography specific to the production of "Cinderella."
