Cobras sneak past Mustangs for back-to-back wins

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Senior Colton McMullin garnered 27 points Tuesday night for the Cobras as Fountain Lake took a 56-43 win over Perryville on Sammy Lambert Court at Irvin J. Bass Gymnasium.

Fountain Lake (11-6, 5-1 3A-4) cruised past the visitors in the first quarter, putting up 15 points while keeping the Mustangs (8-8, 3-3) at bay with just 9. Both teams racked up 16 points in the second as the Cobras held a 31-25 lead at intermission. The Cobras pushed out to a 41-29 lead, holding Perryville to 4 points in the third.

Senior Andrew Overton accounted for 11 of the Cobras' points, and Mustangs' junior Jeffrey Jones led his team with 12.

Fountain Lake hosts Paris today.

*Fountain Lake's Taten Smith and Colby Lambert combined for 22 points as the junior Cobras (12-1, 4-0) rolled to a 36-26 win over Perryville Tuesday.

After knotting the score at 4-all at the end of the opening period, the junior Cobras took an 18-17 lead at intermission. Fountain Lake rolled past the Mustangs for good, pushing out to a 28-20 lead in the third quarter.

Perryville found the rim for 6 more points in the fourth while Fountain Lake tallied 8 of its own, setting the final. Smith led Fountain Lake with 13 points, and Lambert added 9.

Givens and Alexander led the Mustangs with 7 points apiece.

Swimming Wolves place

at Panther Pride Invitational

BENTON -- Lake Hamilton's boys placed 4th in the Benton Panther Pride Invitational while the Lady Wolves finished 9th in the girls division.

Noah Smith walked away with two individual wins at the meet, winning the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly. Zeke McCain was 15th in the event.

Noah Smith was joined by Adam Albrecht, Ethan Smith and Aidan Qualls to win the 400-meter freestyle relay. The relay team also finished second in the 200-meter medley relay. The relay team of Coby Qualls, McCain, Carter Manatt and Barentin was seventh in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Ethan Smith won the 200-meter individual medley with Aidan Qualls finishing third. Albrecht was ninth in the 100-meter freestyle with Carter Manatt (15th), Colton Barentine (18th) and Sutton Manatt (22nd) also competing in the event.

Aidan Qualls won the 500-meter freestyle with McCain finishing sixth. Albrecht finished 11th in the 50-meter freestyle with Carter Manatt (23rd), Coby Qualls (32nd) and Barentine (30th) also finishing.

The relay team of Carter Manatt, Sutton Manatt, McCain and Barentine finished 10th in the 200-meter freestyle relay, and in the 100-meter breaststroke, Ethan Smith finished second with Coby Qualls finishing 17th and Sutton Manatt 20th.

For the girls, the 200-meter relay team of Jessica Jennings, Chloe Carson, Kanyon Wasson and Meg Harrison finished eighth.

Wasson was 13th in the 50-meter freestyle with Meg Harrison (22nd), Chloe Carson (28th), Jennings (39th), Madison Mears (42nd) and Jayden Collier (50th) also competing.

Carson finished 16th in the 100-meter freestyle, and the 200-meter freestyle relay team of Mears, Carson, Jennings and Wasson finished 10th.

LITTLE ROCK -- The Lake Hamilton wrestling team took second in the Pulaski Academy Invitational tournament last weekend, its best finish in a tournament.

Medal winners include Titan Jackson (won 132-pound weight class), Justin Crutchmer (won 152-pound), Zach Bradley (third 160-pound), Austin O'Neal (third 182-pound), and Dylan Horton (third 220-pound).
