Seals finish strong at holiday meet

BENTON -- Aubrey Schmitt, a member of the Hot Springs Family YMCA Seals, was the runner-up for the girls 10-and-up high-point award at last month's Central Arkansas Swim Club Holiday Classic at the Benton Aquatic Center.

Schmitt won seven of her nine events at the meet, finishing second in the 50-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter individual medley. She won the 100-meter backstroke, 100- and 200-meter breaststroke, 100- and 200-meter butterfly, 100-meter IM and the 200-meter freestyle.

Lily Shields won the 50-meter butterfly and the 200-meter IM while taking second in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly, third in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle and fourth in the 200-meter breaststroke. Lily Cook won the 50-meter breaststroke, was second in the 100-meter breaststroke, third in the 200-meter backstroke and breaststroke, fourth in the 50- and 100-meter backstroke, fifth in the 100-meter freestyle and seventh in the 50-meter freestyle.

Jonah Teague, the team's only swimmer competing in the 10-and-under boys division won the 50-meter backstroke, was second in the 50-meter breaststroke, third in the 100-meter freestyle and seventh in the 50-meter freestyle.

In the 11-12 year old girls division, Haylie Miller took third in the 50-meter butterfly, fourth in the 50-meter backstroke, fifth in the 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter backstroke and sixth in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle. Mikeala Moore was fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke and sixth in the 100-meter backstroke.

Sawyer Headlee, in the 11-12 year old boys division, finished fourth in the 100-meter backstroke, fifth in the 100-meter IM and eighth in the 50-meter butterfly.

Emma Crowe led the team's 13-14 year old girls with wins in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter butterfly, and she was second in the 100-meter freestyle. Ying Jiang won her heat in the 100-meter backstroke, was second in the 200-meter IM, sixth in the 50- and 200-meter freestyle and eighth in the 50-meter backstroke and breaststroke. Abigail Steele was second in the 100-meter backstroke, third in the 50-meter breaststroke and 200-meter IM, fifth in the 100-meter IM and 200-meter breaststroke, sixth in the 100-meter breaststroke, and seventh in the 50-meter backstroke and 100-meter freestyle, and Claire Hudnell was third in the 500-meter freestyle and fourth in the 200-meter backstroke.

Hao Jiang led the 13-14 boys with a win in the 200-meter IM, and he was fourth in the 50-meter butterfly and 200-meter freestyle, fifth in the 50-meter breaststroke and sixth in the 50-meter freestyle. Aidan Qualls was second in the 50-meter butterfly, third in the 200-meter freestyle, fifth in the 100-meter freestyle, sixth in the 100-meter backstroke and seventh in the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter IM, and Peyton Speas was fifth in the 500-meter freestyle, sixth in the 50-meter butterfly and seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Hunter Speas won the 100-meter breaststroke in the open men's division, and he took third in the 50-meter freestyle and 200-meter IM, fourth in the 500-meter freestyle and fifth in the 100-meter IM. Ross Karakivrak was second in the 500-meter freestyle, fourth in the 200-meter freestyle and IM, fifth in the 100-meter freestyle and seventh in the 50-meter freestyle.
