HSV man killed in Benton collision with 18-wheeler

A Hot Springs Village man was killed early Wednesday in a collision with an eighteen-wheeler that lost its load on Highway 5 in Benton, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary.

Robert Feckler, 69, of Hot Springs Village, driving a 2020 Nissan Murano, was reportedly northbound in the 8400 block of Highway 5 in Saline County around 9:15 a.m. when he met a southbound 2003 Freightliner, driven by Thomas Weeks, 48, of Hot Springs, in a curve.

Weeks had reportedly traveled into the northbound lane and overcorrected his steering, causing the heavy load he was carrying to spill and collide with Feckler's car.

Robert Feckler sustained fatal injuries, the report states, while his wife, Karen Feckler, 67, who was a passenger, and Weeks sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were both transported to Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton.

The report notes conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck.
