On Saturday, Aug. 15, the Hot Springs Solid Waste Department will host a free e-waste event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hot Springs Convention Center, 134 Convention Blvd.

Acceptable items include televisions; computer monitors and keyboards; VCR/DVD/Blu-ray players and video game consoles; microwaves and other small electronic items.

In addition, the Solid Waste Department accepts electronic waste for recycling on weekdays from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. behind the Solid Waste office at 218 Runyon St.

Last week the Earth Angels of Hot Springs recycled:

• 1,399 pounds -- Aluminum cans.

• 82,580 pounds -- Commercial cardboard.

• 1,363 pounds -- Corrugated cardboard.

• 2,093 pounds -- Newspaper.

• 680 pounds -- Plastic grades No. 1 and No. 2.

• 73,840 pounds -- Yard waste and C.A.P.S.

Last week, a total of 80.97 tons of recyclable materials were kept out of the landfill.

• Monday -- Jaycee Park/Oaklawn-Henderson.

• Tuesday -- Richard/Airport-Family Park.

• Wednesday -- Grove/Files Road-Higdon Ferry.

• Thursday -- McCauley-Greenwood.

• Friday, Aug. 7 -- Hobson-Plain.
