Earth Angel

The Earth Angel Recycling Program is the city's curbside recycling service. It is provided free of charge as part of the services provided by the city's Solid Waste Department. "Recycling is the best way to protect the environment from overburdened landfills while reducing costs. By taking part in the Earth Angel Recycling Program, you have the opportunity to help ensure a healthy future for your community," a news release said.

The Earth Angel truck collects the following materials: aluminum cans; brown paper grocery bags; corrugated cardboard; leaves, grass and small brush; newsprint; plastic grades No. 1 and No. 2; and telephone books.

The city will furnish the container and a calendar of scheduled collection days. The container should be placed curbside prior to 6 a.m. for pickup. Anyone who is currently not participating the Earth Angel Recycling Program can call 321-6911 to get involved.

Last week the Earth Angels of Hot Springs recycled:

• 230 pounds -- Aluminum cans.

• 58,860 pounds -- Commercial corrugated cardboard.

• 1,498 pounds -- Corrugated cardboard.

• 1,464 pounds -- Newspaper.

• 696 pounds -- Plastic No. 1 and No. 2.

• 39,820 pounds -- Yard waste and C.A.P.S.

Last week, a total of 51.28 of tons of recyclable materials were kept out of the landfill.

• Today -- Hobson/Plain.

• Monday -- Quail Creek/Lotus Loop.

• Tuesday -- James/Millcreek.

• Wednesday -- Park Avenue/Magnolia /Circle Drive.

• Thursday -- Oaklawn Park/Pine Meadows.

• Friday, June 12 -- Whittington/Quapaw-Prospect.
