Voting for accountability

Dear editor:

I appreciate the viewpoint of Mr. Hussman regarding his letter concerning the Arkansas state agencies' obvious secrecy regarding issuing permits and making decisions about the protection of our environment.

Mr. Hussman is entirely correct regarding the lack of transparency in pushing through permits and regulations regarding the health and safety of our environment in Arkansas.

The responsibility for the disaster of permitting a huge hog farm in the watershed of the Buffalo river starts with the governor, legislative branches and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. However, we vote for our governor and state House and Senate representatives. We need to hold them accountable when we vote.

We do not need any businesses like the hog farm in "our backyard" when our backyard is a National and State Treasure.
