Roads are much worse

Dear editor:

My thanks to Bruce Tinsley for his letter regarding the Hot Springs road conditions down through the years.

He advises us to address this matter to Mr. Scott Bennett, director, Arkansas Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 2261, Little Rock, AR 72203.

I did write to Mr. Bennett and enclosed a copy of Mr. Tinsley's letter. I grew up in Hot Springs and the roads have always been poor.

I left for nursing school in El Dorado and have spent a lifetime away, except for 2000 to 2003 and found that the roads had not improved.

I have always been extremely proud of my hometown, today, it grieves me to admit that the roads, everywhere, are much worse!

I truly appreciate any and all efforts to remedy this situation. "We the people" appreciate all efforts!

Clarification needed

Dear editor:

On March 26, The Sentinel-Record published a front-page photograph of a routine water meter change in the front of our senior community, South Ridge, here in Hot Springs. The caption directly underneath the photograph identified the city utility employees by name, as well as the address of our community. The next sentence in the caption, and within the same paragraph stated: "The city has suspended utility disconnections and penalties for late payments during the COVID-19 emergency." It would be logical for a reader of this caption, along with viewing the photograph to assume the community of South Ridge has not paid their water bill on time, and is, or will be receiving a rate payer discount.

This would be a false inference. The South Ridge POA takes issue with how we have been presented in the caption. We at South Ridge have always paid our water bill in a timely manner, as we have all our bills. We pride ourselves in being a well-managed, fiscally responsible community, administered by a volunteer POA Board. While we support the Hot Springs economic response to the COVID-19 crisis, we need to vehemently point out the misrepresentation that occurred here at our expense due to The Sentinel-Record linking two separate occurrences. We ask The Sentinel-Record to set the record straight on our behalf in the form of a clarification.

These are difficult, uncertain times. Here at South Ridge we have practiced social distancing since the outbreak, and have discontinued regular social gatherings for the time being. Yet, our neighbors still support their neighbors and maintain a sense of caring community; with conversation six feet apart, outdoor dog walks, phone calls, food baskets left on front porches. We are proud to be part of the South Ridge community.

Start a business, Pt. 2

Dear editor:

This could be a continuation of my letter "Want to start a business?"

The scariest thing we've heard is that 90% of our medicine is "made in China." How did we get here?

Anyone remember when National Rejectors left Hot Springs because the union leaders demanded higher wages or they would have the workers go on strike? I worked there for seven months -- the best-paying job for women without specialized training in Hot Springs.

Donald Trump wants to bring back the "Made in America" label.

Let's keep him, make our medicines here, where we will know what's in them, plus the millions of other products we buy from communist China.

There are millions of National Rejector stories. Greed, engineered by union leaders, is how we got here. Everyone should be paid a reasonable, livable wage -- businesses could stay in America and greedy union leaders could retire on the big bucks they made, costing union workers their jobs, many times.

God Bless America! Pray for America! Hebrews 11:6 says "He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."

P.S.: Are Dems secretly cheering for the coronavirus to grow? I think so! Blame Trump.
