Knights of Columbus, "regrettably," has decided it must postpone its Spring Charity Rummage Sale, scheduled for April 17-18, 24-25, it recently announced in a news release.

"The reason, of course, is the massive disruption to daily lives resulting from the rapid spread of COVID-19 virus," the release said.

This announcement follows the send-out of 600-plus save-the-date cards announcing the dates.

"Much work has gone into preparation for the sale. Unfortunately, the Charity Committee is unable to project when the dates will be renewed, and if uncertainty continues to summer, it will have to be canceled until our Fall Sale in October. Hope remains, however, that the sale can be re-scheduled for late May. Renewal dates will be well-publicized," the release said.

"Income from each sale determines the amount of our monthly allocations to nine local charities," it said.

Presently, $4,700 is divided among nine local charities, those charities being Jackson House, the local food bank (Project HOPE), The Salvation Army, St. Mary's Food Pantry, The Caring Place, the Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, Samaritan Ministries, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, and the local Disabled Veterans Association.

"Based on our present cash reserve, we temporarily will be able to serve only the four food-related charities. Council members and the many indispensable ladies who assist are disappointed that this present circumstance has come to be. Be assured that our work will continue as soon as possible."
