A local man was arrested on a felony battery charge early Monday after allegedly attacking his girlfriend who is five months pregnant with twins.

Luis Rosas Rangel, 20, of 190 Lorado Loop, was taken into custody at his residence around 1:15 a.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Rangel, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on $3,500 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Charles DeLaHunt responded to the residence regarding a battery in progress where the 911 caller said the victim was pregnant and the suspect was being held down by a witness.

Upon arrival, DeLaHunt made contact with Rangel in a back bedroom. Rangel reportedly stated he and his girlfriend got into an altercation and he pushed her away. The victim had left the scene before the deputy arrived, but was told to come back.

The victim, 27, returned and reportedly told DeLaHunt she and Rangel got into an argument over her "sending pictures out to other guys." She said Rangel got physical and threw her on the bed, held her down by her throat and kneed her in the face.

The victim was complaining of pain to her throat and left eye, but reportedly refused medical treatment. She told the deputy she was 23 weeks pregnant with twins. Rangel reportedly admitted to knowing the victim was pregnant.
