One killed, 7 injured in collision

A Mount Ida man was killed and seven people were injured in a three-vehicle collision Friday night in the 1100 block of Highway 270 west of Hot Springs, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary.

Billy Charles Pierce, 82, of Mount Ida, driving a 2017 Buick, was westbound on Highway 270 shortly after 8 p.m. Friday when he reportedly crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2016 Dodge driven by Charles Dewayne Ray, 67, of Little Rock, and a 2007 Ford driven by Stefani Hertado, 38, of Hot Springs, who were both eastbound.

The impact caused Ray's and Hertado's vehicles to veer off the roadway into a ditch. Billy Pierce was killed and three passengers in his car, Charlotte Marimae Pierce, 79, of Mount Ida, and Glenn Elmer Pierce, 57, and Tracy Jean Pierce, 47, both of Sherman, Texas, were all injured.

Also injured were Ray and Hertado and two unidentified minors in Hertado's vehicle. The injured were all transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment.

The report notes it was raining and wet at the time of the wreck.
