Oklahoma wins All-Star meet, GC runners have strong finish

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Oklahoma got some revenge Saturday as both the All-Star boys and girls won the Arkansas vs. Oklahoma All-Star cross country meet at Oneta Ridge Middle School in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Oklahoma has not won both races since 2014, which was the last time the girls defeated Arkansas. Oklahoma's boys won the 2015 meet. Oklahoma's boys scored 24 points while Arkansas scored 31; Oklahoma's girls scored 20 with Arkansas scoring 36.

Mustang (Okla.) senior Gabe Simonsen won the race in 15:45.76 with Fayetteville senior Jack Williams leading the Arkansas contingent in 15:56.09.

Lake Hamilton junior Evan Armitage, who was running in his first All-Star meet, finished 16th (16:37.15) to lead Garland County's runners. Lakeside junior Dylan Dew was 19th (16:41.96), Lake Hamilton sophomore Nathan Miller was 27th (17:01.87), Lake Hamilton junior Zeke McCain finished 28th (17:02.87) and Lakeside freshman Joseph Bariola was 34th (17:14.44).

Broken Arrow (Okla.) junior Payton Hinkle crossed the finish line in 18:47.22 to win the race with Broken Arrow freshman Lily Melton finished second (19:21.22).

Lake Hamilton sophomore Olivia Pielemeier led the Arkansas runners with a finish of 19:31.87, improving her finish by 4.90 seconds. Jessieville sophomore Juliah Rodgers finished ninth with a time of 19:57.20 as the only other Garland County runner. Rodgers shaved off 39.35 seconds from her 15th place finish last year.

Lakeside sophomore Whitley Terry had been selected to run, but she had to opt out of the race due to a foot injury.
