Hot Springs police on Wednesday identified the man who died as the result of a shooting on Ouachita Avenue Tuesday evening as Shane Roy Sowers, 43, of Hot Springs, and said they had a person of interest.
Officers responded to the 600 block of Ouachita Avenue at around 5 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a shooting and found Sowers suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by LifeNet to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said in a news release.
“Through witness’s statements and investigation, detectives have developed a person of interest in this case,” HSPD Officer 1st Class Omar Cervantes, the department’s public information officer, said in the release.

An unidentified man died in an area hospital Tuesday evening following a shooting in the 600 block of Ouachita Avenue a short distance from the Garland County Sheriff's Office.
At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Hot Springs police officers responded to Ouachita Avenue regarding a shooting and located the man, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by LifeNet to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, HSPD Officer 1st Class Omar Cervantes, the department's public information officer, said in a news release.

The victim's name and other information will be provided once proper identification has been made, Cervantes said.
"Detectives are still currently interviewing witnesses," the release said. "Additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available."

HSPD officers, Garland County sheriff's deputies and investigators and attorneys from the Garland County prosecutor's office responded to the scene moments after the shooting which was near the Best Court Motel, 638 Ouachita, located just west of the sheriff's office and the Garland County Court House.
