A Glenwood man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly calling a homeowner and falsely reporting her house was on fire as a joke.
Cody Lee Malone, 33, was taken into custody shortly before 7:30 p.m. at Pearcy Mall and charged with a misdemeanor count of communicating a false alarm, punishable by up to one year in jail.
He was held overnight on a $1,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Sunday, a woman called 911 to report a man had called her saying her house on Old Dallas Road was on fire.
She drove to the house along with her husband and found Malone sitting on her porch. She stated she knows Malone and he was "definitely" the one who called her to report her house being on fire.
Once she realized her house was not on fire, she immediately called 911 to tell them it was a false alarm. She said Malone admitted to calling her about the fire and told her "it was a joke."
Malone reportedly called the Garland County dispatch and told them he was at Pearcy Mall and wanting to talk with a deputy about the phone call. Deputy Shane Tatum met Malone there and he again stated the phone call was just a joke.
Tatum arrested Malone and took him to the detention center where Malone "was still saying the phone call about the fire was a joke" as he was booked in.
