The traditions of Thanksgiving

OPINION

Did you know that there was not a turkey or pumpkin pie within miles of the Pilgrim's first Thanksgiving celebration? Then, why is the tradition to eat turkey and serve pumpkin pie?

The Pilgrims, in 1621, celebrated with food, hospitality to the Indians, games and races that lasted several days. Traditions get started in many ways, and they often change over time. Thanksgiving has become a day of food, family, friends, and football. As we gather safely, and are thankful for freedom, grateful for shelter, and enjoy our food, let us keep in mind the enslaved, homeless, and hungry.
