Eagles fall at home to Magazine

Cutter Morning Star fell behind in the second quarter, but the Eagles were unable to overcome Magazine at Eagle Field Friday night in a 38-23 loss.

"In the first quarter, we fumbled on our second possession -- on a drive, we were inside the 20, fumbled," said CMS head coach Matt Kinsinger. "In the third quarter, we fumbled the ball, and they recovered it and actually returned it for a touchdown."

Senior quarterback Sam Moore found classmate Kaden Prather for a 35-yard touchdown pass, and the Eagles were successful on the 2-point conversion. Keshawn Blevins scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth.

"We put together a nice little drive there and showed some bright spots, some fight," Kinsinger said. "We looked pretty good offensively and moved the ball pretty good in that fourth quarter there."

Kinsinger said that even with the mistakes that were made, the Eagles are slowly getting to where they need to be.

"There are still some things we have to get solidified as far as our expectations and culture goes," he said. "I'm reading the book 'Chop Wood Carry Water' to them and one of the chapters was about inches and how much a difference an inch makes. Over your lifetime, the inches can compile into greatness and the fact that greatness is not for the chosen few but for the few that choose greatness. You have to do the miniscule, minute, meticulous attentive to detail things and I think that we saw some of that last night where the repetition and and things that can become the daily mundane are important. They add up to success, so I hope that we continue that process.

"I will as a coach. That's just what we have to do. We have to keep pushing forward, and I saw positive things that we can continue to build on and I think we had a chance to win Friday night. It just didn't work out our way. We made too many mistakes to overcame based on the situation we were at. I felt positive that there was some cohesiveness there as a unit. There was some consistency as far as the week of practice that we had. There were positives in character where we showed some grit and continued to fight even though things weren't going our way."

Senior Landon Watson tallied 13 carries for 89 yards while Prather had three catches for 80 yards.

The Eagles host Mountain View (2-1) on Friday.
